Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that Ukrainian authorities are united around the European choice of the State.
"Basic political players have no contradictions concerning European choice of the country", - stated V.Lytvyn at the meeting with Thorbjorn Jagland, President of the Storting (Parliament) of the Kingdom of Norway, who is on an official visit in Ukraine.
Dwelling upon the Ukraine´s accession to the European Union, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that "the EU makes a feasible offer to Ukraine: the policy of neighbourhood, Eastern partnership". V.Lytvyn also stressed that "the EU will not fulfill our home task concerning economic reforms and social sector". "We are a European country due to the historical values, but we need time and work to accomplish the results", - he stated.
V.Lytvyn expressed his hopes that the Agreement concerning associated membership between Ukraine and the EU would be signed. However, he supposes that it will be signed not earlier than the presidential elections take place.
Furthermore, V.Lytvyn stated that "the burning discussion concerning Ukraine´s accession to the NATO divides the country". Therefore, the settlement of the said issue should be postponed till better times.
